To get your giffgaff PAC code, text PAC to 65075 from your giffgaff phone. You can also call 43431, or request it from the profile and settings page when you sign in to giffgaff online. This porting authorisation code is free and lasts 30 days. Give it to the network you are joining and your number moves, usually the next working day.
Joining giffgaff instead? Get a PAC from your current network, activate the giffgaff SIM, then enter the code on giffgaff’s number transfer page. Both directions are covered below.
In short: leaving — send the PAC text, hand the code to your new network. Joining — activate the SIM, enter your old network’s PAC on giffgaff’s site early in the day. Either way, do not cancel anything, and be in the UK on transfer day.
How to get a PAC code from giffgaff
| Route | How |
|---|---|
| Text | Text PAC to 65075 from your giffgaff number — the fastest option |
| Phone | Call 43431 from your giffgaff phone |
| Online | Sign in and request it from your profile and settings page |
Requesting the code commits you to nothing. Your giffgaff SIM keeps working until your new network uses the code, so if you change your mind, just do not hand it over.
Already let your giffgaff SIM go inactive?
You still have a window. giffgaff’s agents can issue a PAC for up to 30 days after a SIM is deactivated. After that the number is gone, so do not leave it late.
How to transfer your number to giffgaff
Joining giffgaff and keeping your number
- Get your PAC from your current network — on any UK network, text PAC to the 65075 shortcode from the phone you want to keep.
- Activate the giffgaff SIM. It starts with a temporary number, which is normal.
- Enter the PAC on giffgaff’s number transfer page once the SIM is active.
- Submit before 3pm on a weekday and the transfer is normally scheduled for the next working day. It cannot be scheduled for a weekend or bank holiday.
giffgaff says transfers usually complete within one to two working days. The temporary number disappears once your own number arrives.
Three things that stop a giffgaff transfer
- Being outside the UK. giffgaff states that transfers will not complete while you are abroad. If you are travelling, time the switch for when you are home.
- An inactive giffgaff SIM. A number cannot be moved onto a SIM that has not been activated, so activate it first and check it works.
- Cancelling your old contract. Leave the old account alone. It closes automatically when the number moves — cancel it yourself and the number can be lost.
Expect a short gap on switch day. Your old SIM loses service first, then the giffgaff SIM picks up your number. Move bank and work security codes to another method beforehand so a few hours without texts does not lock you out of anything.
PAC or STAC — check which one you asked for
- PAC to 65075 — you leave and keep your number
- STAC to 75075 — you leave and give the number up
Both codes last 30 days and both end your service. Only one keeps the number, so read the reply before you forward it — especially if it is a premium mobile number you would not want to lose.
Common questions
Is a giffgaff PAC code free?
Yes. Requesting and using a PAC is free on giffgaff and every other UK network.
Can I keep my giffgaff number if I move to another network?
Yes. That is exactly what the giffgaff PAC is for. Give it to the new network and the number goes with you.
How long does a transfer to giffgaff take?
Usually the next weekday if the PAC goes in before 3pm, and one to two days in general.
What if the text to 65075 does not come back?
Use one of the other routes: call 43431, or request the code online after signing in.
The short version
Leaving giffgaff takes one text. Joining takes a PAC from your old network, an active giffgaff SIM and a form submitted in good time. Stay in the UK until it completes and leave your old account alone. For the process across every network, see the guide to PAC codes, and the Lebara guide if you are weighing up another SIM-only network.
