About Us

UK Mobile Numbers is a free guide to UK mobile numbers: keeping your number when you switch network, getting a PAC code, choosing or valuing a number, and what the different prefixes mean. It is written by someone who deals with these questions over a shop counter.

Who writes it

The site is run by Jahangir Alam, who has worked in the UK mobile and network industry for more than 15 years. He runs Mobile Links, a mobile phone shop at 396 Barking Road, London E13 8HJ, near Canning Town station.

The shop repairs phones, tablets and laptops, and sells SIM cards, top-ups and accessories. That means a steady stream of real switching problems: a PAC code that will not arrive, a number on someone else’s account, a contract that turns out to cost more to leave than expected. The guides on this site answer those questions properly, in writing, for anyone who cannot get to the shop.

How the guides are checked

  • Primary sources first. Every process is checked against Ofcom and the network’s own help pages, and those sources are listed at the end of each guide.
  • The answer comes first. Each guide puts the direct answer in its opening lines, then covers the details and the things that commonly go wrong.
  • Dated and re-checked. Each guide shows when it was last reviewed. Networks change their shortcodes, menus and rules, and the guides are updated when they do.
  • Nothing invented. If a claim cannot be confirmed from a reliable source, it is left out.

Independence

UK Mobile Numbers is not owned by, or affiliated with, any mobile network. Network names are used only to explain their processes. If the site ever links to a product and earns a commission from it, that link will be clearly labelled.
